601am and Movable Type at CMS Expo

We're beyond excited to attend and speak at CMS Expo, May 8-10, in Chicago for a few reasons. First, Chicago in May is absolutely beautiful. Having moved away from Chicago four years ago, it's this time of year that I miss the most.

Second, I get to present two sessions:

Movable Type Flyover: "What is Movable Type? Why should you use it? What makes MT different than other CMS on the market? Aaron Bailey, principal of 601am, a long-time Movable Type professional services and support provider, will walk you through Movable Type 5, a CMS that started as a simple blogging engine but has grown over the past decade to power full websites. This will be a high-level flyover designed to give technical and non-technical attendees an overview of Movable Type and what it can do for your organization."

Movable Type Site Showcase: "Movable Type 5 is an all-in-one social publishing platform flexible enough to power large media publications and blog networks as well as small business websites. In this session, you will see examples of MT sites in each of the following categories, learn how they were built, and walk through the CMS from the perspective of a content editor, designer and administrator."

Planning on attending and interested in a one-on-one chat about your CMS needs? Please shoot me an email (aaron@601am.com) and let's schedule some time for tea or coffee.

We've known Ken for a number of years, and collaborated on a few projects with him in the past. When it came time to find another developer, we eagerly asked, and Ken eagerly agreed to join the team.

Ken has been designing and developing scalable web sites for education and business sectors for 15 years. He specializes in CMS development, building large and small applications in Movable Type and others. He has been an active member of the Movable Type community over the past decade and also served as primary developer on the successful launch of The Morton Report.

Ken works remotely from Bowling Green, Ohio. When Ken is not coding, he's always playing video games.

Charlie Gorichanaz has been a contractor with 601am over the past few months, and delivered such great work that we decided to make room for him on the team.

He joins us after spending five years studying biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and working for The Badger Herald. As the web director, he managed one of the largest Movable Type installations and handled server administration. Charlie also worked as an associate copy chief and a video producer.

Charlie joins Andrew Dederich as the second cheesehead on the team. When Charlie isn't making Movable Type magic, he can be seen on jumping stilts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Help Wanted: Movable Type Developer

601am is a growing web development company, primarily building and supporting websites for media companies.

We're looking for a contract-to-hire front-end CMS developer to join our growing team.

You need to be proficient in coding HTML, CSS and Javascript (jQuery), able to slice a Photoshop PSD into production-ready markup and then integrate that markup into a CMS. In short, you'll be given PSDs and expected to make the front-end magic happen. You'll also be called upon to maintain and support templates that someone else has already built, adding or changing based on the client's needs.

Since we're a small group, you might be called upon to help in other ways, so a willingness to jump into an unknown situation is key.

Skills

Proficiency in building standards-compliant HTML, CSS, and Javascript/jQuery based on PSDs and requirements docs.

Ability to integrate that markup into a CMS. Movable Type experience is preferred, however we welcome expertise in WordPress, ExpressionEngine or Drupal and are willing to train you in Movable Type.
